Meet Emily Johnson

Emily Johnson Cincinnati Doula

Emily Johnson is a labor and postpartum and infant care doula, childbirth educator, postpartum placenta specialist, VBAC specialist, and infant feeding specialist serving Greater Cincinnati. She’s also one of the co-founders of Doulas of Cincinnati. Let’s get to know her a little better.

How long have you lived in the Cincinnati area?

I've lived in NKY my entire life, save for a brief, nine-month stint downtown to appease my husband when we were first married.

What do you love about living in Cincinnati?

The history here. The Reds. The Roebling. Carew Tower. So many firsts. The German fare. The hop-skip-and-a-jump to just about anywhere: bustling city, cutting-edge urban neighborhoods, suburbia, and even farmland!

What's your favorite place to eat in Cincinnati?

Thai Express in Clifton

Goldstar or Skyline?

Goldstar...but I do love extreme cheese from Skyline!

UC or XU?

Gross. UK all day.

What does your ideal Saturday look like?

Sleeping in and boating. I'm easy to please.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

South Africa or New Zealand

What did you want to be when you grew up?

First female president. I might still go for it.

Why did you become a doula?

It was really an organic thing...Growing up, my mom regularly shared her three positive birth experiences with me.  She maintained that, while it was hard work, it was normal and, dare-I-say, no big deal.  I, of course, having no birth experience of my own, believed the same.  My nonchalant outlook about the whole process seemed to attract friends and family who wanted confident [in them] support during their pregnancies and subsequent births. I started reading more about birth out of pure necessity and discovered the role of a doula. A couple years later, I took my first workshop and I've never looked back!
