Mother’s Day is this weekend and there’s no better way to celebrate than to enjoy beautiful Cincinnati.

The best way to celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend is to wear the kids out.

Stay with me here…

Worn out kids = sleepy kids at night = mom sleeps (or at least enjoys some uninterrupted DVR time).

Here’s the Doulas of Cincinnati top ten list of things to do Mother’s Day Weekend.

1.  Something Sweet

Celebrate mom’s sweetness and get the kids moving out the door on a weekend morning.  Indulge at Holtman’s Donuts, Macron Bar, Aglemesis Brother’s or Graeter’s Ice Cream.  A pint of ice cream for breakfast never hurts, right?

2.  Enjoy some art

The 13th Annual Northside Art in the Park is this Saturday.  With over 60 artists represented, a fantastic puppet show from Wump Mucket Puppets and art activities from Happen Inc. there’s definitely something for the whole family to enjoy.

3.  Banshee Brew Festival

Mom is not a Banshee.

I repeat.

Mom is not at Banshee - but she may enjoy a beer.

Visit Kings Island for this roller coaster inspired festival.  With beer, food and live entertainment, plus theme park rides and thrills to keep the kiddos entertained, it’s bound to be a scream.

4.  Walk along the Ohio River

Head out to Coney Island for the 47th Annual Appalachian Festival.  Besides storytelling, crafts, music, and education, there’s food.  Food means mom doesn’t have to cook a meal, and that’s always good.

5.  The Butterfly Show at Krohn Conservatory

After visiting this year’s spectacular butterfly exhibit, stay a while longer and enjoy the warmth of the rainforest at Cincinnati’s Krohn Conservatory.  With over 3,500 different plant species including bonsai, orchids, and exotic fruit trees mom will be transported to a tropical haven.

6.  Get out in the Garden

Speaking of plants, Mother’s Day weekend marks the start of the summer planting season.  First take a trip to the Civic Garden Center for their annual plant sale.  Head home and do some planting.  Nothing wears kids out more than hard physical labor, and digging in the dirt will do just that.  Side note: be sure someone else covers the digging and bath time while mom kicks back to relax.

7.  Washington Park in OTR

Washington Park never disappoints.  Pack mom a picnic and soak up some city sun.  Special events this weekend include a play of “Where the Wild Things Are”, a pinata in celebration of Cinco de Mayo and Kickball.  Don’t forget moms can enjoy an icy cool (or adult) beverage on the deck or do some OTR shopping while the family enjoys the playground and interactive water park.

8.  The Cincinnati Zoo

Don’t miss this year’s Zoo Babies at The Cincinnati Zoo.  Moms enjoy free zoo admission and discounted Zoo Adventure Tickets (includes admission, unlimited train and carousel rides, and 4D theater experience) on Sunday May 8th, 2016.

9.  Drive In Movie

Put the kids in their jammies and take a drive to the Holiday Auto Theatre.  If you’re lucky the kids will fall asleep on the way there...if not, they’ll definitely sleep on the way home.

10.  Mother’s Day Brunch

We’re hoping you wore the kids out on Saturday and that they’re sleeping in so mom can too.  Perhaps you’ve planned ahead and made Cinnamon Baked French Toast - but let’s be real.  Mom really doesn’t want to clean crumbs out of her bed.  Instead start the day with brunch at The Sleepy Bee or in OTR for some waffles at Taste of Belgium, then let mom relax the rest of the day away.

Happy Mother’s Day from Doulas of Cincinnati!
